Is a Leadership Change the Time to Look at the Future of Your Card Office?

Is a Leadership change of your Card Office the chance to take a hard look at what your office is doing and if it should still be doing it?
This presentation will share one school’s look at this in relation to: need for physical space, continuation of stored value, absorption of department into security or IT, groups that need identification, etc. How much need is there in your school for a stand alone card office in the future?

Discussion Questions:
1. If you have Online Photo Submission, do you still have any locations that actually take photos?
2. If you have moved to mobile credential, how busy is traffic flow in the office?
3. How are your stored value sales year over year?
4. Is there a card office champion outside of your office?

From Katherine Escandon:  Has anyone been able to grow their stored value plan(s)?

From Jessica Taylor:  What were the main sources of your revenue in the past? Have they changed at all over the past four years?

From Terence Quinn:      Re: growing stored value programs, we (Washington State University) have not.

From Michael Leitao:      Brown University’s stored value usage has shrunk considerably.

12:35:48 From Jon from Evolis:  Sorry, not a stored-value thought.  I think you wondered about the need to use your physical space for card issuance. Have you considered issuing the cards (new, replacement) across campus via self-service kiosks which can issue cards 24/7, if necessary?

From Jorrun Liston:  2. If you have moved to mobile credential, how busy is traffic flow in the office?

From Kristen Hodges:     For us (UMBC) we’ve completely eliminated traffic in our office since implementing photo upload.

From Kristen Hodges:     We still take photos when necessary but we’re about 90% online photo submissions now.

From Jorrun Liston:  3. Is there a card office champion outside of your office?

From Wendy McCrory:  For those with online photo, how many have a requirement like Scott mentioned?

From Wendy McCrory:  We’re completely optional and our participation is low.

From Kelly Venable Carroll, Tulane University:  Tulane requires it for all students, and we give faculty and staff the option to upload photos as well.

From Kristen Hodges:     We were optional, but when COVID hit, we made it mandatory and stuck with it.
